Regarding your editorial in the Thursday, June 5, edition ("Smith staring down the horns of dilemma with sovereignty push"), (the Author) make several comments that cause concern. Firstly, you falsely accuse Premier Smith of playing into Donald Trump’s hands and supporting the concept of separation. What the Premier is doing is allowing Albertans to make their own decisions. It’s called democracy.

Secondly, you make a broad statement that “the vast majority of Albertans have no desire to separate from Canada.” Where did you get that statistic from? Without concrete evidence to support such a claim, it raises questions about your journalistic integrity. I agree, however, with your opening statement that “many of us who lived through the trauma of the 1995 Quebec referendum…”

I remember it very well, and it was very traumatic for the people of Quebec. Many of them have been trying to form their own country for over 300 years, and unfortunately, they lost that golden opportunity. It is what they want, and it is what would be best for the country. We wouldn't have to subsidize them anymore or have the expense of forced bilingualism. Here in the west, and let the people decide about our own sovereignty.

Your editorial reeks of very biased, poor journalistic writing.
