Cochrane and Area Humane Society
I’d like to bring a wider eye to the Cochrane Humane Society. Animals have always been a major part of my life since a young age – cats, dogs, horses, the more the merrier, right? I think so.
Also, from a young age, I have completed many assignments on animal abuse and mistreatment. It’s something I feel incredibly strong about. I try to do whatever I can to awareness or money for the cause. It is important for people to learn about animal protection and animal cruelty so they can understand. I remember back in grade school, my class had to sit through horrifying videos on things such as slaughterhouses, or how animals are “made into meat.” It is disturbing and turned a few of my classmates into vegetarians – just like that.
I think owning or adopting a pet is a life-changing and heartfelt experience. Humane Societies can be so important to give helpless animals a much-needed home and chance at a good life, which they all deserve. Allergies can always come into play or just not wanting a pet, which is an individual’s choice. You can donate money to the Cochrane Humane society or even volunteer around their facility.
If you love animals I think that would be an amazing opportunity. If you are unable to adopt an animal, you could foster one so it has a loving home until it is ready to be adopted. The Cochrane Humane Society also has many events going on such as a Pet-I-Cure fundraiser on Feb. 25th, its rehabilitation and education centre opens March 4, a Mutt Strut May 27 and many more.
You can walk in when the society is open and look around. When I visited, the number of adorable ready to be taken home pets overwhelmed me. If you’re like me, you wish you could take them all in. Another great thing about the facility is lost pets can be brought there in hopes their owner will find them – it is a lost and found for pets.
The Humane Society also has animal training, kid’s programs to get children involved, and pajama parties for kids to go enjoy time at the humane society. There are also things for older ages. Go check it out, especially if you are looking to adopt a new member to your home! Or visit the website. http://www.cochranehumane.ca/contact/
