The great community we live in

Visitors to our town comment on the great vibe and atmosphere in Cochrane; I couldn’t agree more. Even in tough economic times, individuals continue to serve on committees or boards, volunteer for events and give a helping hand to those in need.

Visitors to our town comment on the great vibe and atmosphere in Cochrane; I couldn’t agree more. Even in tough economic times, individuals continue to serve on committees or boards, volunteer for events and give a helping hand to those in need. At this time of year, when we are formally celebrating all the fantastic volunteers throughout our community, I am reminded of the wonderful town we live in and all the individuals who make it so remarkable.

I could highlight projects council and administration are working on but instead I want to highlight a few events that speak to the real heart of our community.

Last week we celebrated volunteers. It was a fun filled week expressing gratitude for all our extraordinary Cochranites who make this community exceptional.

On April 21 we will be celebrating the truly incredible youth in Cochrane at the Leaders of Tomorrow Youth Awards.

On April 23 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Andrew Watson, Tim Giese and Marni Fedeyko are hosting the first Cochrane Clean Up event. They hope the whole town participates, and encourage volunteers of all ages to help beautify our town. For more details go to the Facebook page, Cochrane Wide Clean Up.

The Cochrane Community Awards Committee is busy getting ready for the upcoming 2016 event, which will be held on May 29 at the Cochrane RancheHouse. This is an event not to be missed! For more information on the Cochrane Community Awards, please visit the website www.ccawards.ca

If you would like a chance to talk with the mayor and council, we will be at the Cochrane Trade Show held on April 30 and May 1. This is another great local event. We hope to see you there.

And lastly, I have noticed the Cochrane paths bustling with Cochranites enjoying the beautiful weather. Each person passing each other with a smile and a greeting, it is the small things that add up to make our town great.
