Fall labour market review highlights worker shortage in Bow Valley
“We have seen a big increase in people who worked in the service sector, be it hotels, restaurants, retail, who had time to reflect on their work and they’re calling us and saying they want to work with a career coach to look at their options."

HBO show filming to begin in downtown Canmore
“This filming will give us insight into the complexity of film permitting at this level and provide the baseline necessary for future requests. This is the biggest filming in Canadian history, so it’s amazing all of the things that are in place."

Richards re-elected in diverse Banff-Airdrie riding, Liberals earn minority government
“I've always saw myself as a voice for the people of the riding, whether I've been in government or opposition. I always feel there's a way you can be effective and getting called out for those viewpoints. You just take a different approach, and I'll continue to take the approach I have. I believe we can still get results for our area. I believe that I can still be an effective voice for our constituents and always continue to work to do that.”

Dead Man's Flats wildfire contained, investigation continuing
“The fire danger in the Calgary Forest Area, where this wildfire is located, is extreme. In these conditions, a wildfire can start easily and spread very quickly. We ask all Albertans to do their part to prevent wildfires. Last year, 88 per cent of wildfires were human-caused. There is currently a fire ban in place for the entire Calgary Forest Area, which means that outdoor camp fires are not allowed.”

Sorensen named to Canadian Senate, Banff council to select new mayor
“While I never intended to leave the role of mayor before this term was complete, I am confident in the abilities of our very thoughtful and diverse Council, and I am comforted knowing a municipal election is only a few months away. And while I will be spending part of my time in Ottawa, Banff has and will always have my heart."

Highest priced home sale in years occurs as inventory increases and market slows
“The big issue in Canmore and always has been is affordable housing. The access to affordable housing for local residents is extremely difficult. Buying actual detached homes is really beyond the means of the vast majority of people if you’re an average family with normal jobs… generally the most you can hope for these days is a townhouse. Detached homes are largely out of reach.”
