CLEVELAND (AP) — Guardians pitcher Ben Lively had Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Wednesday morning. Dr. Keith Meister did a right elbow ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction with a flexor tendon repair on the 33-year-old Lively in Dallas.

CHICAGO (AP) — The White Sox placed second baseman Lenyn Sosa on the 10-day injured list because of a strained right hip flexor and recalled first baseman Tim Elko from Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday.

TORONTO (AP) — Injured Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola will not throw a scheduled live batting session Thursday because of mild soreness on his right side, manager Rob Thomson said Wednesday.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The game between the Kansas City Royals and St. Louis Cardinals scheduled for Wednesday night has been postponed by rain. The Cardinals said the I-70 rivals will finish their season series with a split doubleheader Thursday.
