KANANASKIS – Search is underway for a missing man after a tragic canoe incident killed one person on Barrier Lake in Kananaskis Country on Saturday (Aug. 16).
Cochrane RCMP was dispatched to a capsized canoe at approximately 6:30 p.m. Upon arrival, police said a 60-year-old man from Calgary was deceased, while a 30-year-old man, also from Calgary, is still missing.
A 56-year-old woman from Calgary was transported to hospital with hypothermia.
“Searches thus far have not been successful in locating the missing male,” said RCMP in a media release. “The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team will be commencing a search for the missing male at 10:30 a.m. [on Monday]. People are asked to avoid the area to allow responding crews to work safely.
“RCMP sends condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.”
