The local chapter of 100 Women Who Care is looking for new members and a new charitable recipient to benefit from tonight's quarterly meeting at the Venue Bar and Grill at 7 p.m.

The concept is simple: the goal is to get 100 women together in one room to vote for their favourite local charity (must be local). Three are selected in a draw and members narrow it to one with a vote. Members then sign a cheque for $100 to the selected charity.

"We keep the money local ... and I've found out so much about charities I didn't know before," said member Leslie Deans.

"It doesn't take a lot of time and it's only four meetings a year," said Deans, adding that their group is not at 100 members yet and anyone is welcome to attend and fill out the group.

The chosen recipient from the February meeting, the Boys and Girls Club of Cochrane and Area, will be on deck tonight to deliver a few words about what the $4,300 it received was used for.

"Many people can make such a difference," said Judy Samson from 100 Women Who Care Cochrane, sharing a recent stat from the 100 Who Care Alliance conference in Scottsdale, AZ about $1.29B given away through U.S. "giving circles" in the last 20 years from some 150,000 people engaged and 85 per cent of those dollars stayed inside their communities.

"The old saying that many hands make for little work ... it really does. It's amazing," said Samson.

Anyone is welcome to attend and encouraged to even spectate rather than sign up to become a member. Learn more on Facebook/100 Women Who Care Cochrane Chapter.

The 100 Women Who Care Alliance started in Jackson, Miss. in 2006 by Karen Dunigan with the idea that 100 women could bring $100 and donate one hour of their time four times per year.

Successful recipients must have a charitable status, including a Canada Revenue Agency number and serve at a local level.

The local chapter is registered with the 100 Who Care Alliance.
