Spectators are welcome to watch 80 horseback riders compete in a horse triathlon event at the Cochrane Agricultural Society on Aug 1.
Riders will compete with the same horse in three categories – dressage, cross-country, and show jumping. The grounds are located off of Highway 1A west of the Highway 22 intersection.
Each rider gets one attempt in each of the categories, and each category will have a panel of judges grading the riders to determine how they place in their division. The age range for competitors varies from children to adults to seniors, which will determine what division people are judged in.
The first event, dressage, is described as the art of dancing on horseback or ballet on horseback and is often compared to the freestyle of figure skating according to Equine Canada. This event will start at 8 a.m.
Show jumping will begin at 10 a.m. outside of the arena and cross-country will start around noon. This is considered to be a mini triathlon as all events will be taking place on the same day and the distances are shorter.
Registration is open to riders until July 22. The top three competitors will be awarded cash and the top six competitors will be awarded ribbons.
The Stagecoach Food Truck and parking will be on the premise.
