The Highway 1A/22 Interchange project is moving into its final stages, and Alberta Transportation has announced a series of significant traffic changes set to begin in mid-August.
Starting around August 16, 2025:
- Eastbound and westbound Highway 1A will open on permanent lanes under the new Highway 22 bridge.
- Both new permanent roundabouts will be in use.
- Northbound Highway 22 traffic to eastbound and westbound 1A will use a new loop ramp and east roundabout.
- Southbound Highway 22 traffic to both directions of 1A will use a new exit ramp and west roundabout.
- Westbound 1A to southbound Highway 22 will be routed to a new west loop ramp.
- Eastbound 1A to northbound Highway 22 will continue using the west loop ramp and temporary roundabout (same as current routing since late June).
In addition to these changes, the east leg and north end of the temporary roundabout will be closed. By late August or early September, a new movement from Highway 1A to northbound Highway 22 will open at the east roundabout, Highway 22 will be realigned in both directions through the interchange, and the 2023 temporary detour roundabout will be fully closed.
Project officials caution that timelines are approximate and dependent on weather and construction progress. These adjustments mark part of the final phase of work, with full completion anticipated in late 2025.
“We appreciate your continued patience as this major project progresses,” the Town noted in a recent Facebook post. “Please drive with care, follow signs, and expect short-term adjustments as crews work to improve long-term traffic flow in the area.”
