As summer draws to a close, The Cochrane and Area Family Resource Network (FRN), alongside Staples and the Kiwanis Club of Cochrane, return with the Backpack Program for students returning to class in fall.
The initiative aims to alleviate the stress and financial burdens associated with the return of the academic year. The program is dedicated to providing students from kindergarten to Grade 12 with essential back-to-school supplies that are needed for a successful school year.
FCSS manager for the Town of Cochrane, Kim Krawec said that a number of families in the community face financial challenges. Through this initiative it helps families dismantle the financial obstacles that come along with a new school year.
“This program relies heavily on community donations,” Krawec said. “We are incredibly grateful to Staples, the Kiwanis Club of Cochrane and community donors for their ongoing support.”
Applications for the programs must be done in person at the Family Resource Network between Aug. 22 and Sept. 30. Applicants are required to provide proof of enrolment in a Cochrane or West Rocky View County school, with GST documentation that enlists dependent children.
Residents without proper documentation can call to book an appointment with FRN resource worker.
Donations for this program are accepted at the Staples on 40 Quarry St., or the FRN on 127 First Ave. More information on the Backpack Program can be found online by visiting Cochrane.ca/backtoschool or by calling 403-851-2265.
