Bail hearing next month for suspect accused of shooting German tourist

The 16-year-old suspect accused of attempted murder for shooting a German tourist in August is set for a bail hearing in Calgary at the end of October in the hopes of being released from custody until his trial starts.

The 16-year-old suspect accused of attempted murder for shooting a German tourist in August is set for a bail hearing in Calgary at the end of October in the hopes of being released from custody until his trial starts. The young suspect can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. His agent confirmed his legal counsel will be Balfour Der. The boy has been in custody since he was arrested on Aug. 24. This was the suspect’s fourth appearance in court. A previous appearance was adjourned while the boy was trying to retain legal counsel. The teen faces 14 charges including attempted murder, discharging a firearm with intent and possession of a prohibited weapon. Horst Stewin, a German tourist who was visiting Canada, was shot in the head Aug. 2 while driving on Highway 1A near Morley. He has since returned to Germany where the bullet was removed from his brain. It has been sent to Canadian authorities for ballistics testing.
