One of the most decorated country music stars in Canada is coming to fire things up in Cochrane.

Australian-born and Alberta-raised Gord Bamford will headline a fundraising concert April 5th presented by Rocky Mountain Rotary Club and Lachambre Productions.

Sheldon Lachambre of Rocky Mountain Rotary said the club was looking to do something big for live music lovers in town.

“We don’t get a ton of big acts like Gord Bamford, and Gord’s actually bringing Dallas Alexander and Devin Cooper, both in their own right very good performers, so it’s going to be a pretty big night of live music down at the Lions Centre,” he said.

Bamford is one of the most recognized country music stars in Canada.

Raised on a farm in Lacombe, Bamford said he spent some time in Cochrane as a boy visiting and has good memories of the times he has performed in town.

“We’ve performed there quite a bit – very supportive, it’s been excellent every time,” he said. “Since COVID we’ve been trying to get out and just work in as many communities as we can.”

Bamford now has 10 albums to his credit, including last year’s Fire it Up. He’s garnered 26 Canadian Country Music Association awards including Album of the Year, Single of the Year and Male Artist of the Year, along with receiving multiple JUNO Award nominations, with over 100 million streams and five billion audience impressions at radio stations globally.

He is a two-time recipient of the CMA Global Country Artist Award, with 28 Top 10 singles in Canada including the No. 1 hits “When Your Lips Are So Close” and “Dive Bar.”

Bamford has also been deeply involved in charitable causes for some time. The Gord Bamford Foundation is now in its 18th year, and he is the recipient of the 4-H Canada Distinguished Alumni Award and the CCMA Humanitarian of the Year Award.

To date, Bamford has raised more than $6 Million for various charities through the Foundation, which supports initiatives that include or involve music, education, health care, sports, and multi-use facilities that benefit youth across Canada.

The fundraiser concert is Friday, April 5, at the Cochrane Lions Club Event Centre, 109 5th Ave. W. All of the proceeds raised go back to local charities supported by Rocky Mountain Rotary.
