Bird e-scooters are making a return to Cochrane on May 20, ahead of the summer season.

Cochranites can fly around town this summer, with the return of Bird e-scooters to Cochrane starting on May 20.

In a media release by the Town of Cochrane, the e-scooters will be strategically stationed around town with a heavier presence in Historic Downtown and The Quarry, and can be activated through the Bird mobile app.

To provide better affordability and accessibility, Bird will be introducing ride passes this year, which includes monthly and multi-day options. The initiative aims to make the e-scooters more accessible to a wider range of residents and visitors.

Residents can navigate through the many bike lanes and pathways around Cochrane that can be seen online by visiting Cochrane’s interactive map on www.cochrane.ca.

All riders are expected to adhere to provincial regulations and road rules, and prioritize safety measures akin to cyclists. Riders must be aged 16 or above, and the use of helmets are recommended for safety, but not mandatory.

When parking, users are encouraged to do so considerately, ensuring no obstructions to sidewalks, driveways, bike lanes, or pathways.

Manager of community services for the town of Cochrane, Michelle Delorme, said this is demonstrates Cochrane’s commitment to fostering a vibrant and sustainable environment through its partnership with Bird.

“Since its launch in 2021, the shared electric scooter pilot program has been instrumental in advancing Cochrane's dedication to environmental sustainability and diversified transportation options,” said Delorme.

The shared electric scooter pilot program, aimed to run until the end of 2024, will undergo public interest assessment for potential continuation.
