Bocce ball tournament to benefit neurological research

Cochrane and area residents should get their tossing arm ready for a bocce ball tournament in support of the Branch Out Neurological Foundation.

Cochrane and area residents should get their tossing arm ready for a bocce ball tournament in support of the Branch Out Neurological Foundation.

Hosted by Fallentimber Meadery June 8, proceeds from the event will go towards two Cochrane teams participating in the 2013 Branch Out Bike Tour, a 100-K road cycling tour set in Panorama Mountain Village in B.C. The bike tour runs June 15.

The family-friendly event will be a full day of activities, said Gail Hermanson, who is a member of A Cyclist and Two Wanabes, the biking team organizing the event with help from two-person biking team Colin and Allyson Hill.

In addition to the bocce tourney, there will be a tricycle race, a bike limbo contest and potato sack races for the kids.

A chili cookout competition will test your taste buds and keep hunger at bay.

Hermanson said she anticipates the event to begin at about 11 a.m., but said she’ll confirm with registrants before the fundraiser.

Fallentimber Meadery will be open during the fundraiser for tours and/or purchasing mead.

The Branch Out Neurological Foundation funds researchers at accredited Canadian university to find ways to prevent, treat and cure neurological disorders through alternative therapies and treatments.

Deadline to register for the bocce ball tournament is June 6. Teams of four can register for $40 or individual players can register for $15.

Email Hermanson at [email protected] to register or to learn more about the event.
