The body of Stephen Thomson, one of the two campers reported missing in the Findlay Creek area of British Columbia, has been located, said Cpl. Chris Newel of Kimberley RCMP. The search continues for the second missing man, Cochrane’s Nicholas Hoefnagels.

Thomson’s body was found by the RCMP Police Dog Service June 4, along the shoreline of Findlay Creek amongst logs and debris.

Hoefnagels and Thomson, of Canal Flats, B.C., were reported missing June 9. It had been determined the men’s truck went off an embankment on Findlay Creek Forest Road and into Findlay Creek. The water in the creek was high and fast moving at the time, with sheer rock as a shoreline.

The truck was located near Findlay Creek Falls and removed from the water June 24.

Newel said the body was found about 10-km downstream from the truck.

The RCMP Police Dog Service and RCMP helicopter are continuing to search the area.

Funds are currently being collected to aid in the search, the money will put towards recovery efforts and to provide support for the families of Hoefnagels and Thomson.

Money can be e-transferred to an email address set up for search: [email protected].
