Bragg Creek history

The Greater Bragg Creek Historical Society is looking for people to share their old photos and memories at their meeting this Saturday.

The Greater Bragg Creek Historical Society is looking for people to share their old photos and memories at their meeting this Saturday.

“We’re not asking for the photos, we’re asking people to share them,” said Judie Norman, Bragg Creek resident and the society’s chairperson, adding that they’re hoping to take the photos and make copies of the items for an eventual book.

The society is also interviewing long-time community members and hoping to update their collection, organized by decade to when the 2013 flood hit.

As part of their meeting, the society will be hosting guest speaker and senior resident Barbara Teghtmeyer to speak on the history of Bragg Creek.

Teghtmeyer runs the Bragg Creek Trading Post and is a well know figure in the community, according to Norman. Teghtmeyer wrote articles about the history of Bragg Creek for the High County News in the 1990s, as mentioned in a February article in the Eagle.

“I think it is amazing that the society has been officially founded and they are devoting so much time to it,” Teghtmeyer was quoted saying. “I am so happy they are doing this, and I am willing to act as an historian if they would like to consult with me.”

“She’s very well versed in the history,” Norman said of Teghtmeyer.

People with stories, photos and memorabilia of the Bragg Creek area as well as those who are simply interested in history are invited the society’s meeting this Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Bragg Creek Community Centre. For more information, email [email protected].
