On Aug. 15, community members of Bragg Creek will notice a lot of pink around the hamlet – all to raise awareness for breast cancer, and to have some fun along the way.

To coincide with the Wild Pink Yonder’s seventh annual ride, Bragg Creek will be hosting stops for horseback riders draped in pink making their way from Cardston to Edmonton on a three-and-a-half-week ride.

“The Wild Pink Yonder has asked for several years for Bragg Creek to be on the (route),” event organizer Angie Sanders said.

This will be the first year that Bragg Creek will host a portion of the 600-kilometre ride and organizers said they hope to continue to do so in the future.

As part of the ride, each community will attempt to be declared the “Pinkest Little Town in the West.”

“It’s not necessarily how much money you raise or which town is painted the pinkest,” Sanders said.

To help transform their hamlet, Bragg Creek has set up a number of events to show support for breast cancer survivors.

Such events include pink hair dying for a donation, where attendees can have temporary dye sprayed into their hair and beards, as well as pink hair extensions for a donation to the Wild Pink Yonder.

Members of the Bragg Creek and Area Chamber of Commerce will be dying their hair pink for the cause.

When riders arrive Aug. 15, they will embark on a parade through Bragg Creek, where community members can greet and congratulate them.

After the tour of Bragg Creek, riders will be taken for a four-hour horseback ride through Kananaskis Country.

Other events include a toonie ring toss put on by Bragg Creek Oil and Vinegar, an auction for a handmade breast cancer awareness quilt from the Creeky Door and jewelry and pink blazers on sale from the Crabapple Cottage with proceeds raised going to the Wild Pink Yonder.

After riders return from their Kananaskis tour, they will be treated to a barbecue dinner put on by Wild Texan BBQ and live music from local musician Tim Harder. Meals will be available for purchase for community members and some proceeds will be donated to the event.

The Wild Pink Yonder is a horseback ride to help raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research in communities across Alberta.

After the event concludes, riders will vote on which community was the “Pinkest Little Town in the West.”
