In the spirit of the festive season, the animals down at the Cochrane and Area Humane Society (CAHS) have finalized their holiday wish list. And just in time for the shelter’s annual Home 4 the Holidays Christmas Party Open House.
Slated to run from noon to 5 p.m., Dec. 14, the open house promises activities for the entire family, right down to the furry-faced ones.
“This event is such a great chance for people to come to the shelter and learn about what we do here,” said Cheryl Wallach, spokesperson for CAHS. “This time of year always brings out the best in people. It’s about giving. And people tend to have a soft spot for homeless animals.”
In celebration of the shelter’s 15th anniversary, this year’s party will feature a new development: a scavenger hunt that will take kids through the facility, learning about the history and role of the organization as they go.
Santa Claus will be available for photos with family pets on a first-come, first-served basis, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
In addition, the yearly party will bring back its annual bake sale for holiday goodies. Each of the treats will be displayed with a full list of ingredients to accommodate individuals with allergies.
Norm’s Nook will be open for partygoers to purchase gifts for the homeless pets. This year, the cats are asking for treats, rattle balls and catnip. Meanwhile, the dogs are crossing their paws for gifts of backpacks, Kong chew toys and stuffed toys. Treats are always welcome gifts.
Items on the wish lists range in price to suit a variety of budgets.
Of course, anyone interested in adopting a companion will be able to check out the animals at the humane society.
“We’re very full right now,” said Wallach. “It would be nice for these animals to have a home for the holidays.”
