Are you ready to sweat?

Cochrane’s own local bike shop Café Roubaix has entered a team into the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer and will be fundraising for the event on stationary bikes downtown May 23 from 1 p.m. to 1 a.m....yes, for 12 consecutive hours.

The Café Roubaix team has set a goal to raise over $30,000 as part of the event. Money raised during the Ride to Conquer Cancer goes to the Alberta Cancer Foundation and is directed toward the support of patients and families at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary, the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton and 15 additional cancer centres across the province.

The ride is a two-day cycling event that spans over 200 kilometres.

The annual Ride to Conquer Cancer has been happening since 2009 and has raised over $42.6 million to date.

Team Café Roubaix will be accepting donations from the public during their fundraising ride, taking place at 220A First Street West.

The actual Ride to Conquer Cancer will occur Aug. 8-9; while this weekend’s stationary ride is a fundraiser for the August event.
