A man is dead after being pulled from the cold waters of Waiparous Creek Oct. 29.
Tristan Queyras, a 26-year-old male from Calgary, was found face down in the water under the Waiparous Creek Bridge. His car, a Mitsubishi, was found partially submerged in the creek. He was the lone occupant.
The two hunters who found the man were able to pull him out of the water. He was unconscious, and the bystanders attempted to resuscitate him while waiting for emergency services to arrive.
EMS and fire crews responded to the scene at about 1:45 p.m., along with STARS Air Ambulance and members of the Cochrane RCMP detachment.
Emergency personnel continued the attempts to revive Queyras as he was transported to hospital, said Cpl. Mel Calahasen. He added that the driver was suffering from severe hypothermia.
He was pronounced dead at the hospital. An autopsy was scheduled for Oct. 30.
“At this point, we’re thinking he purposely drove off of the road and into the creek,” said Calahasen. “We believe he succumbed to the elements. Circumstances are not suspicious at this point.”
Investigation determined that Queyras exited the submerged vehicle and unsuccessfully attempted to scale the creek bank.
Mounties continue to investigate the incident.
