The doors opened at 3 p.m., but by 2:30 p.m. people already filled the parking lot and began congregating by the doors at RockPointe Church.
The vendors were already set up and organizers decided to open the doors early. Enter Christmas crafts lovers.
The sixth annual Crazy4Crafts Bearspaw Christmas Market opened their doors Friday, and for the first time will run for two days. The market will open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with Santa Claus dropping by between 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Organizer Christine Wedgewood explained that vendors requested the extension in previous years. She said last year’s one-day instalment attracted more than 1,500 residents from around the Cochrane area and Calgary.
Proceeds from Friday’s admission will benefit Tails to Tell Animal Rescue based in Crossfield. The Calgary Food Bank will receive proceeds from Saturday.
This year’s market attracted 93 vendors from around southern Alberta. The market features everything from gourmet chocolates, eye catching cutting boards, hobbit-like birdhouses and jewellery.
Calgary-based needle felt artist Christine Serpico owns Quirky Works. Her shop features a variety of felt figurine Christmas ornaments and do-it-yourself felting kits. Her business purchases their wool from Carstairs-based Custom Woolen and Mills Ltd.
Unique to the market are free door prizes of CrazyBucks. Every guest can enter one of the numerous daily draws for $25.00 CrazyBucks which can be used as cash at any vendor on the day of the event.
Admission is $2 per person and free for kids 14 and under.
