In support of the RCMP-led Integrated Safety and Security Group (ISSG), the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) will be moving a substantial number of military vehicles from Edmonton to Calgary between May 15 and 30 for the 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit.
To reduce traffic disruptions, these road moves will occur during the evening.
Alberta RCMP ask all motorists to be careful around these vehicles and to pass with caution.
The route will see the vehicles travel west on Highway 216 (Anthony Henday), south to Highway 2 (Queen Elizabeth II) through Airdrie and Rocky View County, west on Highway 201, west on Highway 1 and south on Highway 40.
For operational security reasons, the ISSG and CAF will not be confirming specific equipment or the number of vehicles involved in these road moves.
The CAF is enhancing and complementing the safety and security efforts by providing planning support, air mobility support, rural terrain surveillance, chemical biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive response; as well as aerospace defence.
In addition to the military vehicle road moves, the CAF’s presence will increase in the Kananaskis region in the lead up to the G7 Summit.
Before and during the G7, the public may see members of the military working alongside members of the RCMP conducting operations at various locations in the area.
The G7 Summit will take place June 15 to 17.
