It looks like Spray Lake Sawmills (SLS) Family Sports Centre is going to the dogs this weekend.

The Calgary Kennel and Obedience Club is holding its All Breeds Dog Show, which runs Sept. 11-13 at the SLS Centre and encourages Cochranites to check out some high caliber pooches in stiff competition.

Over 100 different breeds will take part in confirmation, obedience and rally obedience, as well as junior handlers taking part in competitions Saturday and Sunday of the show.

Exhibitors compete against each other towards points that are tallied up at the end of the year. The competitor with the highest points wins the title of ‘top dog in Canada.’

Visitors will have the chance to “meet the breed” with a rotating line up of different breeds and will be able to chat with the breeders.

“It’s the best place to look for a dog because you’ll see all the breeds at their best,” said Della Kyncl, club president.

Produced by a core group of club members, the 60-year-old club began hosting its shows at the Cochrane locale in 2013; prior to that, shows had been hosted at the Calgary Stampede grounds, which was severely impacted by the June 2013 flood.

Learn more about the club at ckoc.com. Tickets to the event are $5 for adults, $3 for youth (aged 13 to 17) and seniors and free for children under 12.
