Cochrane RCMP received 25 complaints of thefts of vehicles, thefts from vehicles and mischief to vehicles in the past week.

Of the 25 complaints, 18 were stolen vehicles.

“That means, 18 of these property crime complaints could have been prevented,” said Cst. Kary Moore. “These criminals aren’t super motivated, they will literally check to see if a door is locked and then move on when they discover it is….and, alternatively, enter it or steal when it isn’t.”

Moore emphasized that all residents should make a habit of keeping their vehicles locked, especially during the winter months.

“These are crimes of opportunity,” said Moore. “With the cold weather, would-be thieves know that people will leave their vehicles running and unlocked, they prey on these people. Please, please, please lock up your vehicles.”

Anyone with information regarding these property crimes are asked to contact the Cochrane RCMP detachment at 403-851-8000.
