If you haven’t had time to get your Christmas light display up yet, it is time to get to it because residents from Big Hill Lodge will be holding their annual Christmas light contest Dec. 17.

From 6:30-8 p.m. the residents will drive around different communities in Cochrane in their adventure mobile bus looking for their favourite outdoor displays.

Kim Maclure is the activity coordinator at Big Hill Lodge and said they have been doing this event for five years now and it originally started as just a fun trip out to look at the lights.

“In the process of that we though it would be kind of fun to actually judge them and give first, second and third place prizes to our favourites. It kind of grew from there and word spread in the community,” she said.

The residents have made large, brightly decorated cards for first, second and third place winners, which they will present to the winners along with a certificate.

Maclure said they would knock on the winning residents’ doors and present them with their prize and often times they will come and say thank you to everyone on the bus.

As for what it takes to catch the residents’ eye, Maclure said the glitzier the better.

“The way it is all put together really attracts their eye. Often those will be the ones we go back to,” she said, adding that it isn’t always about the amount of lights, but how they are put together as a whole.
