Chicken Day saw around 2,000 chickens being distributed at North Forty Feed located in the industrial area of downtown Cochrane.

What the cluck? There were roughly 2,000 chickens on Railway Street on April 19 as part of North Forty Feed and Farm Supply's third annual Chicken Day. Customers from all over the south region of the province stopped by the business to pick up their Lohmann Brown chickens. "Come on girls," the handlers coo to their feathery cargo as they pull them out of the truck and cages and into the kennels of their new owners. "I think everybody should have chickens," said Lisa St. Pierre, with North Forty Feed.

The chickens for sale were 19 weeks old – a good age according to those who raise chickens since they're young and just about ready to start laying eggs. For now, the chickens were only being sold to rural-living customers, or those living where urban chicken coops have been approved. St. Pierre said she hopes one day she can sell them to Cochranites hoping to raise chickens here in town.
