The final flick of the 2013-14 season for the Chinook Film Group will be Le Week-End, with an April 16 screening to be held at the Cochrane Movie House at 7 p.m.

Chosen by the film group for its poignant scriptwriting and high-calibre acting, this 2013 Film Circuit flick has received two wins and six nominations.

“This film stars Jim Broadbent and Lindsay Duncan as they revisit the locale of their honeymoon, the beautifully shot city of Paris,” explained Murray Mitchell of the film group.

“The dialogue-driven comedy explores the state of a relationship 30 years in, and the give and take that naturally develops between a couple.”

Directed by Roger Michell (Notting Hill, Changing Lanes), wins include a British Independent Film Award for Best Actress (Lindsay Duncan) and a San Sebastian International Film Festival Award for Best Actor (Jim Broadbent).

The film was also nominated for three additional British Independent Film Awards, a London Critics Circle Film Award and a New York Film Festival Award.

Jeff Goldblum is a highlighted co-star in the film, acknowledged with a Best Supporting Actor nomination.

“We think this film will appeal to our group because it’s not modeled on the romantic basis that so many of the senior’s relationship film lately have been — this is a 30-year relationship truly represented,” said Mitchell.

The comedy-drama received well above average ratings and was released last October in the U.K. and Republic of Ireland.

Mitchell said the season was filled with great response and solid attendance — even during the frigid winter months, filing in to check out the carefully selected film picks.

“You can be sure that our selection committee will be out there researching next years selections,” said Mitchell, adding that the 2014/15 season resumes in September.

Tickets to the screening are available at Video Experts or Java Jamboree for $10.
