Bragg Creek will welcome visitors from near and far to join in the celebration of the spirit of Christmas this season.

Bragg Creek’s Spirit of Christmas event will run over two weekends — Dec. 6-7 and Dec. 13-14, all days from noon to 4 p.m. Spirit of Christmas committee member Marina Cooke said not only would everyone enjoy visiting the hamlet during the Christmas season, but they would also be pleased to know that all of the festival’s indoor and outdoor activities are free of charge.

“Everyone who visits will be enchanted by our gorgeous wonderland and will feel like they have been transported to a magical place,” said Cooke. “Please join us for an old-fashioned family Christmas celebration in our picturesque and charming hamlet.”

Cooke said she is thrilled to announce that new to the festival this year are special celebrity guests who are sure to delight all who attend.

“Our exciting news is that if you come out you will meet a certain ice queen, or her heroic red-headed sister and their silly snowman friend,” said Cooke.

The two-weekend event includes horse drawn wagon rides, visits with Santa, live ice-sculpting demonstrations, a concession stand and a bonfire.

Activities will be located throughout the Bragg Creek business corridor, which includes the Bragg Creek Shopping Centre, the Village Centre Shopping Mall and the Trading Post Mall.

There will also be activities at the Bragg Creek Community Centre and the Snowbird’s Chalet.

Saturday, Dec. 6 only, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Bragg Creek Community Centre, there will be a Kid’s Only Store, where children can purchase unique gifts for their families, friends and teachers.

“Weather permitting, and if Jack Frost cooperates and provides us with solid ice, there will be family skating at the Community Centre’s outdoor rink,” said Cooke.

Each festival date, with the exception of Dec. 6, the Bragg Creek Seniors will open up their facility, the Snowbird’s Chalet, to the public as a place for people to get out of the cold and warm up.

Seniors will provide hot chocolate, cookies, free face-painting and Christmas storytelling.

“We want to thank Karen Nordgaard and her fellow Bragg Creek Seniors for their continued support, hard work and participation,” said Cooke.

Once again, Coy’s Christmas Tree Lot will be selling trees and donating a portion of the proceeds to the Bragg Creek Community Centre’s children’s programming over the festival.
