An investigation with respect to a bomb threat at Cochrane High School (CHS) is ongoing, although RCMP officers believe the investigation has turned to one of mischief.

Sgt. White with the Cochrane RCMP said they are following up with a couple of names of possible suspects.

What appears to be a tasteless prank likely committed by teenagers was observed around 6:32 a.m. June 8, when the local detachment received a complaint of a bomb threat at the high school.

Upon arrival, the following slogan was found spray painted on the outer wall of the school: ‘There is a bomb insie (actual spelling) ISIS is here ISIS is now.’

It also appears the suspect(s) tried to gain access inside the school by breaking a window, sustaining cuts while attempting this process.

A search of the school by police and an RCMP service dog resulted in no discovery of anything suspicious. Students were redirected away from the school by staff and police until around 8:30 a.m., following the search.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspect(s) is encouraged to call the local detachment at 403-851-8000 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
