Cochrane Ag. Society hosts fundraising Tack Sale

How the West is now. It is Cochrane’s official slogan, decorating signs and banners all across town, and to actually see it in action, all one had to do was drive to the Cochrane and District Agricultural Society (CDAS) grounds on Saturday, May 10.

Located amidst a myriad of active construction zones, along the road from one residential neighbourhood to another, is the CDAS grounds. There, on Saturday, the CDAS held, for the first time in a decade, its Tack and Barn Sale.

Free entry for customers on the hunt for new old boots and other western wear and tack. The CDAS uses the sale as a fundraiser. Whether it be from people coming in to buy things or from people setting up booths to sell their items, the CDAS collects the profits and uses it for its operational costs.

Shane Want, one of the organizers of the sale, said the last time the Ag. Society did it, it was very successful. “Lots of people have lots of tack to get rid of and lots of people are looking for a bargain.”

Want mentioned that first and foremost the money CDAS raises from the fundraiser would be used for things like a roof renovation on the indoor arena, which sits in the middle of the 146 acres that the Ag. Society occupies.

The indoor arena is in a spot for a “much needed roof replacement,” Want said, and would cost “many digits.” So, any funds raised from the Tack and Barn Sale would help the CDAS in that quest.
