Cochrane showed off its equestrian prowess this past weekend as the Cochrane Ag Society held a schooling show on Feb. 26.

Lenore Oler, the general manager with the Ag Society said the show was meant as a way for riders to participate in a competitive event while still in a learning environment.

“It encourages a schooling, learning atmosphere for people to come out and practice regardless of how long they’ve been riding or how long their horses have been jumping,” Oler said.

Forty-seven riders took part across five divisions in the Alberta Equestrian Federation sanctioned event, many coming from local stables. The show featured mainly jumping events and some flat classes events.

Oler said the event was well attended, given the COVID-19 circumstances that have affected public events over the past two years.

“It was exciting to have a large number of entries which is always a good sign of people being happy and excited to get out with their horses,” Oler said. “We had a lot of good results, lovely riders … all in all, I think it was a great success.”

The winners of each division were:

  • Division 1: Georgia Early on Kelly
  • Division 2: Alyssa Natras on M.J. McLaren
  • Division 3: Sonja Sward on Jedi
  • Division 4: Ayslynn Werenka on My King’s Alegro
  • Division 5: Elise Shorting on Braveheart.

The final schooling show takes place on March 26 at the Cochrane Ag Society.
