Cochrane business owners can help reduce noise pollution in the community via a new alarm rebate program offered by the Town.

Cochrane business owners are invited to help make their neighbourhoods a little quieter via a new alarm rebate program announced by the Town on Oct. 20.

The alarm rebate program will allow business owners to cover the cost of replacing tonal back-up alarms with broadband alarms on commercial vehicles.

The goal of the initiative aims to reduce noise disturbance in Cochrane.

Concerns from residents led town council to support the change from standard tonal back-up alarms required on industrial and construction equipment, to broadband alarms.

The alarms will emit a wide range of frequencies that engage when an equipped vehicle reverses, which serves to alert the surrounding area for an immediate hazard.

"Cochrane has a role in creating livable neighbourhoods and supporting local business and activity,” said Mike Korman, Interim Director of Planning and Development Services, Town of Cochrane, in a press release. "The rebate program will assist Cochrane businesses to continue delivering vital services and mitigate the costs of upgrading fleet alarms to the quieter broadband style."

The rebate will support Cochrane businesses who purchase and instal broadband-style alarms including companies that operate commercial supply delivery, snow removal, property maintenance, and construction equipment are encouraged to apply.

The increased adoption of broadband-style alarms will reduce the noise pollution in the community while maintaining the safety of workers and residents in Cochrane.

Applications can be found on Cochrane.ca/alarmrebate and are available for installations as early as January 2022. Cochrane business owners will be required to submit the form with proof of purchase and installation.
