The Cochrane Alliance Church’s Open the Doors project is coming to fruition.

On July 24 the church will be hosting its final service in the building, located at 902 Glenbow Drive, at 10 a.m. Following the service will be a sod turning ceremony and speeches with special guests Mayor Ivan Brooker and Banff-Cochrane MLA Cam Westhead.

The church has been fundraising for several years for an expansion and renovation. It hopes the renovation will benefit the entire community by providing a communal space for local groups and clubs. On April 24, local a cappella singing group HOJA performed at the church in order to donate all proceeds to the project.

To date the church has raised $2,1 million of its $4.2 million goal. It plans to raise another $622,000 and supplement the remainder with a loan from Western Canadian District of the Christian and Missionary Alliance.
