Cochrane and area folks challenged to Run at the Ranch

Cochrane’s own Marathon Man, Martin Parnell, has issued a challenge to Cochrane and surrounding area residents to lace up your sneakers and hit the trail for the second annual Run at the Ranch.

Cochrane’s own Marathon Man, Martin Parnell, has issued a challenge to Cochrane and surrounding area residents to lace up your sneakers and hit the trail for the second annual Run at the Ranch.

The race, which is set to run at Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park Aug. 25, is one of the events Parnell is participating in as part of his TransRockies Quest 888.

There are three divisions to choose from: a 5-K Fun Run and Walk, a 10K and a Half Marathon.

A single-kilometre kids race will also be offered, but limited to children aged 12 and under.

“I challenge all Cochrane and area runners and walkers to come out for the second-annual Run at the Ranch,” said Parnell in a media release. “The Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park is a gift that just keeps on giving.”

The park sits along the shore of the Bow River, between Calgary and Cochrane and features more than 1,300 hectares of parkland. Last fall marked the inaugural running of the Run at the Ranch.

This year, the race will give participants a glimpse of the park’s summer season, said Tara McFadden, community engagement officer with the Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation (GRPF).

A portion of the event proceeds will support the GRPF and the maintenance of the park.

“The run supports the park financially, but mostly the event is about getting people out to the park, experiencing the park and loving the park,” said Tara McFadden, community engagement officer with the Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation.

“For those who haven’t experienced the park, the race will offer great views and challenging terrain.”
