Cochrane and District Chamber of Commerce will host Greystone Fireside Chat next week

“It’s something that is happening now and is happening quickly,” Sawicki said. “There’s a lot of interest in what’s going to happen in that location in terms of housing, but also the shopping component, and other areas that are going in around that space."

The Cochrane and District Chamber of Commerce plans to host the CEO of Ocgrow Group, Harish Consul, at the Cochrane Ranchehouse for a fireside chat regarding Cochrane's upcoming Greystone Community on April 5.

Cochrane’s future community of Greystone has become a popular topic for many in town.

As a way to help answer the many questions that have been asked on what the future may hold for the future subdivision, The Cochrane and District Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Greystone Community Fireside chat on April 5.

The chat will take place at the Cochrane RancheHouse from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. It will host Harish Consul, the CEO of Ocgrow Group, which is the largest land developer for Greystone, and he plans to discuss their latest developments.

Ozzie Sawicki, president of the Cochrane and District Chamber of Commerce, said the upcoming fireside chat will serve as a way to connect Cochrane residents with Ocgrow Group and engage them in conversation.

“It’s something that is happening now and is happening quickly,” Sawicki said. “There’s a lot of interest in what’s going to happen in that location in terms of housing, but also the shopping component, and other areas that are going in around that space.

“We just thought it was an opportunity to really talk about what’s happening in that space, how that ties to the SLS Centre, and how it impacts our community.”

Sawicki said he anticipates a majority of the conversation will cover the vision Ocgrow Group has put forward for Greystone, while addressing some of the questions that have been asked about the new community in regards to the new retail spaces, business components, and growth impacts.

“I think the basic questions will be – what will be in that space and how will that impact the town of Cochrane overall, in term of growth?” Sawicki said.

Though the chat is chamber-run, Sawicki said this event is not limited to members of the business community, and the chamber invites anyone who may be interested in learning more about the future neighbourhood to check it out.

“I think it’s important we represent our community as a whole because we can be a very value-added voice for the community, so that the general public and members of the community of what’s happening at a business and growth level.” Sawicki said. “So definitely anyone in the community is welcome to attend.”

From the point of view of a member of the chamber, Sawicki said attending the event can help people answer if they feel Greystone will help benefit the community.

“I think it is important for us as a chamber to provide an avenue for that developer to present their vision and what they’re expecting to see grow in that area,” Sawicki said. “We want the community as a whole to hear about the growth from a development and business point of view.

“These are the types of things that I think are part of our role as the chamber – to be a voice for the community.”

Anyone who is interested in attending can register for the April 5 event online by visiting business.cochranechamber.ca.
