A staple Canadian tradition is back with the return of nominations for Kraft Hokceyville 2024, with this year’s bid seeing nominations for the Cochrane Arena.
Through a partnership between Kraft Heinz, the NHL, and the National Hockey League Players’ Association, nominations are open and being accepted until Feb. 18.
Over the last 18 years, Kraft Hockeyville has awarded $4.8 million to 97 communities to address the growing costs associated with maintaining or upgrading aging sports and recreation infrastructure in Canada.
In addition, Kraft Hockeyville is also working alongside Stanley Cu Champion, Olympic goldmMedalist and former NHLer and Boston Bruins Captain, Patrice Bergeron, as the official Kraft Hockeyville 2024 program ambassador.
In a press statement by Kraft Heinz Canada president, Simon Laroche, he outlines that Hockey is the beating heart of communities across Canada.
“I’m looking forward to hearing from communities and, through their stories, seeing what this game means to them,” Laroche said. “At its core, that is what Kraft Hockeyville is all about – celebrating the game and those communities across the country. At Kraft Heinz, we’re proud of the significant role we continue to play in helping support the growth and future of Canada’s game.”
Throwing their hat into this year’s bid is the Cochrane Arena, which has already been garnering a decent amount of support in the community. With several nomination stories and rallying efforts in the community, the community is making a push to win the bid to update the arena.
This year’s winner will have the chance to host an NHL pre-season game, receive $250,000 towards arena upgrades, and win the title of Kraft Hockeyville 2024. This year, three runner-ups will also recive $10,000 in brand new hockey equipment, via the NHLPA Goals and Dream Fund.
