The new Cochrane Crusher Gravel Event cycling race is looking for volunteers.
Riders will have the option to race 52 kilometres (km) or two laps on the same course for a total of 104 km. The course is on rolling terrain, 94 per cent gravel with a total of 1,034 m (3,392 ft) climbing per 52 km lap.
As a first for Alberta, there will also a separate 52 km E-Bike recreational gravel ride, for those who want to explore the back roads with a little help.
Volunteer positions are available in four types, shown on the volunteer website.
The event takes place northeast of Cochrane at Glengary Bison Ranch, located at Township Rd. 280, in Madden. The race starts at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21.
Volunteers are appreciated and will receive: a virtual meet and greet with all volunteers before the event, supplies (such as safety vests, etc.), a free barbecue meal after the event, and a choice of $25 cash, and a $25 gift certificate from Rogelli Sportswear. Adversely, volunteers can donate $25 to the women’s shelter in Cochrane.
The event has support from the local cycling and business community with over $5,000 in prizes and awards.
