Cochrane Fire Services quickly responded to reports of a structure fire in River Heights earlier this morning.
The fire took place at approximately 2:10 a.m. at a single, unoccupied outbuilding that was quicky contained.
Cochrane Firefighters, with assistance from two fire stations from Rocky View County, worked in temperatures approaching -30C to extinguish the fire. Their battle lasted until 5:30 a.m. and there were no injuries reported.
Due to cold weather and a lack of wind, there are reports of residual steam and a lingering scent of smoke in the area. Cochrane Fire Services outlines that this is normal due to the circumstances of the fire.
As the property is adjacent to Highway 22, drivers may observe the steam and smell smoke. Residents and commuters are assured that there is no immediate danger. However, if any smoke or fire is observed, individuals are encouraged to quickly call 911 for assistance.
A Cochrane Fire Investigator is on scene, and the cause of fire is currently under investigation. There are no further details regarding its cause.
Cochrane Fire Services would like to thank the community for their cooperation and understanding during this incident.
