The second year of random acts of caroling is happening Cochrane.

The Cochrane Glee Club is busy for the month of December, singing their hearts out at a variety of events, including door-to-door caroling again.

“It was pretty good (last year),” said Shelley Gittel, the director of the group.

“Most people were shocked or surprised to see a huge group of kids at the door.”

With only 13 members to start, the Glee Club has grown to over 130 members in the past year.

Self-described ambassadors for Cochrane, the Glee Club has performed at major town events in the past year including town council meetings and Cochrane Light Up.

Gittel said that the kids came up with the idea of caroling last year and that she and Brenda Koob, the described “driving-force” behind the caroling who also helps with the group, thought it fit well with the idea behind the club.

And it was a success.

“One person came to the door then they invited all their friends. It was a house full of teenagers or young adults and they all took out their iPhones to film – it was funny,” Gittel recalled.

“The kids are excited, particularly the little ones. I think it will be well-received and the kids like it.”

The Glee Club has already performed random acts of caroling at the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre and sang at the Bragg Creek Spirit of Christmas Festival, while also going door-to-door in Bragg Creek in-between performances.

Upcoming non-random performances include the Santa Claus parade this upcoming weekend and any communities the Glee Club may end up in during the Santa visits the following week.

“There is a lot more of us, so I think it will be fun,” Gittel related.
