To help drive awareness for this year's census, the Town invites residents to guess Cochrane's current population for a prize valued at $200.

As the municipal census draws closer, Cochranites are invited to participate in a contest to guess Cochrane’s current population for a chance to win a Cochrane-themed prize pack valued at $200.

The contest aims to bring awareness to the census, while serving as a fun way to get resident ready to participate. This year’s census is set to being on Apr. 3, and is the first census conducted since 2019.

Since many provincial grants are based on population numbers, the Town says obtaining an accurate count is crucial to securing appropriate funding. The benefits on the census also help keep track of Cochrane’s population between federal censuses, plan better for social an infrastructure projects, and update emergency plans based on current population numbers.

Residents interested in guessing the population can do so online by visiting www.letstalkcochrane.ca/guess-our-population. Guesses will be accepted until Apr. 7.

Once the census is complete, the results will be sent to Alberta Municipal Affairs for approval. The winner of the contest will be announced in June when the official census information is released.
