Cochrane Humane Society's 25-year anniversary 'Pawty Palooza' to feature puppy races

“Our journey over the last 25 years has been filled with wagging tails, contented purrs, and the joy of giving second chances,” Beaton said. “This celebration is not just about us; it's about the power of community and the impact we've made together.”

The Cochrane and Area Humane Society (CAHS) is hosting a Pawty Palooza on Saturday to celebrate 25 years of caring for animals.

The day will include carnival games, prizes, food trucks, demonstrations, and puppy races. Participants are being asked to leave their pets at home, as this is planned as a party for families.

Tiffany Beaton of the CAHS said the day will be all about celebrating.

“Our journey over the last 25 years has been filled with wagging tails, contented purrs, and the joy of giving second chances,” Beaton said. “This celebration is not just about us; it's about the power of community and the impact we've made together.”

She added that for each rescue and adoption, the CAHS provides support that extends beyond their walls.

And there will be lots of activities for puppy-lovers to indulge in.

“The adorable puppies here at the shelter are revved up and ready to showcase their lightning-fast speed and impressive skills.” She said, referring to the much-anticipated puppy races. “Brace yourself for the cutest races you've ever witnessed.”

The party goes from noon to 5 pm on June 3.

Kids will able able to pick up the competitor of their choice and cheer their athlete on to victory.

Costs are up for the humane society as inflation has taken its toll. Pet food and related items, according to Canada’s Consumer Price Index, rose 13.5 per cent in March compared with the same month last year.

That’s in stark contrast to 4.3 per cent inflation for all goods and services combined for Canadian consumers.
