NO GRAD FOR 2020 STUDENTS
Rocky View Schools has cancelled all spring graduation ceremonies and related celebrations. It was a difficult decision but graduation ceremonies needed to be cancelled to protect the health and safety of school communities during the COVID-19 pandemic said a press release from Rocky View Schools. Given the public health emergency protocols in place, it was not feasible to host in-person events that draw large crowds. Rocky View Schools is exploring alternative options to celebrate the graduation of 2020 students.
FIRE BAN IN EFFECT
A fire ban has been authorized in the Town of Cochrane effective at 1 p.m. Monday (April 27). A press release from the town announced that all outstanding burning permits are suspended until further notice. The fire ban was implemented because of the extreme fire danger in the area due to the dry and windy conditions. During the fire ban no campfires, burning of wood products or charcoal briquettes are allowed. Gas or propane power stoves or barbeques and portable propane fire pits are allowed. The ban will be in effect until the Fire Chief’s office deems is it is safe to remove. For more information on the ban visit Cochrane.ca/fireban or call the town's administrative offices at 403-851-2540. A fire ban has also been implemented in Rocky View County.
SPRING CLEANING
The Town of Cochrane's residential street sweeping is set to begin on May 4. Each subdivision in the town will be scheduled for cleaning over a block of three days— sweeping will not take place during an area's regular waste or recycling collection days. The town is asking residents to find an alternative for off-street parking and use driveways, alleys or parking lots when possible during scheduled cleaning days. The town is also asking that curb ramps, hockey and basketball nets are moved off the road during street sweeping. Notification signs will be placed in neighbourhoods 48-hours in advance of street sweeping. The full schedule is available at cochrane.ca/255/Street-Sweeping. The schedule for street sweeping is confirmed by 8 am daily on facebook.com/TownofCochrane and Twitter @TownofCochrane.
