Cochrane in Brief

Helping Hands seeking volunteers

The Helping Hands Society of Cochrane and Area is seeking volunteers to get involved in the community. Helping Hands is a service that connects volunteers with the people who need them. The charity’s volunteers work to assist low-income seniors, chronically ill residents, single parents and newcomers with practical needs. The volunteers will help with rides to medical appointments, food drives, mentorship, yard care and maintenance, teaching English, companionship and more. To get involved visit the Helping Hands Society of Cochrane and Area Facebook page, or go to bttr.im/1dhxb to register.

Santa approved to visit Cochrane

Mayor Jeff Genung and the rest of Town Council have heard many concerns over the past few weeks whether or not Santa Claus will be able to visit Cochrane amid the recent COVID-19 restrictions. Mayor Genung and the rest of Council want to reassure all Cochranites that Santa Claus will indeed be coming to town this year. Town Council has heard from the team at the North Pole that Santa, Mrs. Claus and their elves have been doing everything they can to stay safe this year. It is important that Santa not have any contact with anyone while he’s delivering presents, so even if you hear reindeer on the roof, stay in bed until he is gone.

Santa's Sleds for Children

The Santa's Sleds for Children program hosted by Cochrane Toyota has hit its goal and nominations are now closed. More than 300 kids in the community have been nominated to receive a sled from Santa. Santa will be visiting Cochrane Toyota, along with Mrs. Claus and his favourite elf, to hand out the sleds in person on Sunday (Dec. 20). The sleds will be distributed via curb side pickup in accordance with Alberta Health Services' COVID-19 regulations. A schedule of pickup times for each family will be announced soon.
