Construction underway on Highway 1A
Improvement work for Highway 1A began Tuesday (June 22) and motorists are encouraged to look for changes in the area during the process. The Town of Cochrane has issued an advisory the parking lot at the corner of Centre Avenue and Highway 1A will be closed, as well as First Avenue between Centre Avenue and 2nd Street. Construction crews are expected to begin installing fencing in the area, and motorists are asked to be aware of the crews on-site and follow all posted construction signage.
Summer Book Sale at CAHS
The Cochrane and Area Human Society is seeking donations for its Summer Book Sale from Tuesday (June 22) to Sunday (June 27). The animal shelter is looking for books by popular authors, best sellers, Canadian authors, non-fiction books, true crime and thrillers, sport, cooking, teen and children's books to be donated to the shelter for the annual sale. Encyclopedias, dictionaries, textbooks, atlases or magazines will not be accepted. Anyone looking to donate books to the Cochrane and Area Humane Society is asked to leave the donations by the main entrance of the shelter between Noon and 5 p.m.
Mitford Pond stocked for fishing season
In partnership with the Alberta Conservation Association and the Fish in Schools Raise to Release program, the Town of Cochrane stocked Mitford Pond with 350 trout for the season on Saturday (June 19). The pond is stocked annually with the fish for Cochranites to enjoy. Children 14 years old and younger can keep what they catch, while kids over 14 and adults must observe catch and release practices. Mitford Pond is one of roughly 350 stocked bodies of water in the province by the Alberta Conservation Association and Alberta Environment and Parks.
