RIDE4HER SPEEDS PAST FUNDRAISING GOAL

The Ride4Her charity motorcycle ride released the final tally of donations on Saturday (June 20).  The group ride, sponsored by Royal LePage Integrity, announced that it raised $7,800, cruising past its $5,000 goal.  The money raised was donated to the Big Hill Haven Women’s Shelter for the construction of a shelter facility in Cochrane. Eighteen riders took part in the 267-kilometre ride on June 6, and more than 80 individuals and businesses made donations.

COCHRANE MINOR BASEBALL STEPS UP TO THE PLATE
Cochrane Minor Baseball has opened up registration for its modified 2020 summer season. Registration opened for intermediate, junior and senior leagues on Friday (June 19), and will remain open until Tuesday (June 23). Registration for major and minor leagues closed earlier this month. The local minor and major leagues will run from June 22 to July 31, while the intermediate, junior, and senior leagues will run from July 6 to Aug. 22. Parents should expect to see an updated waiver when registering their children, which includes new stipulations regarding liability for COVID-19, as well as CMB’s plan to minimize risk “now and in the future.” Coaches and managers will also have new guidelines to follow during practices and games.

HORSE CREEK ROAD PEDESTRIAN CROSSING OPENS TO THE PUBLIC

Cochrane’s brand new Horse Creek Road Pedestrian Crossing officially opened up on Friday (June 19) with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and first official crossing. Families from bordering neighbourhoods were able to enter a contest to win the opportunity to be the first to walk the new crossing.  Blaine, Lama and Noah Garrison-Al-Yafi from West Terrace/West Pointe, Martin, Kelsey, Sophia, Archer and Harrison Medynski from Heritage Hills, and Leanne Doppler and Ruffy from Heartland were crowned the winners by the Town of Cochrane. During the event, Mayor Jeff Genung spoke to the history of CP Rail in Cochrane. “While the train no longer stops here, we are hoping it will again one day – maybe as part of a new rail line between Calgary and Banff,” he said.  “In the meantime, this partnership between CP Rail and the Town of Cochrane resulted in this important pedestrian crossing becoming a reality.”
