Cochrane in Brief

Quilting for Critters

The Cochrane and Area Humane Society is hosting an online auction for a one-of-a-kind, hand-made, double size quilt. The hand-crafted blanket was made by a local group of volunteers who call themselves Quilting for Critters. In previous years, the Cochrane and Area Humane Society ran raffles for the quilts donated to the shelter, but this year, they are turning the event digital in hopes of raising crucial funds. The online auction begins on Thursday (March 11) at 12 p.m., where the quilt will be unveiled, and will run until 4 p.m. on Sunday (March 14). Visit the Cochrane and Area Humane Society on Facebook for more information.

Affordable housing fundraiser

The Cochrane Society for Housing Options has partnered with Skip the Depot for a fundraiser to help provide affordable housing for those in need in Cochrane. To participate all it takes is three easy steps— Download the Skip the Depot App from the Google Play or Apple App Store, sign up and schedule a pickup. Put your recycling outside on the day of your pickup and use the app to let the driver know where to find them. Within 48 hours you will be notified of everything counted and visit app.skipthedepot.ca/csho/.

Embroidery night

The Kindred Cochrane Pride Society is hosting an online embroidery night on March 26 at 7 p.m. Representatives from Kindred Cochrane Pride will walk you through how to create your very own embroidery as they work through the stiches on a unique Pride design, created by Cochrane’s local embroidery expert, Beth Evans of Penny Embroidery. Kits can be purchased for $5, which includes the hoop, fabric, needle, thread and the design. For more information, or to register, visit Kindred Cochrane Pride on Facebook.
