The Town of Cochrane is launching a new advocacy campaign to focus on key needs in the community, while also prioritizing provincial responsibilities.

In a press release sent out by the Town of Cochrane, it outlines that intergovernmental relations and advocacy efforts are increasingly important for the community.

Through partnering with the Government of Alberta, the Town said it brought several successes in recent years including provincial investment in the Highway 1A project, alongside $100 million for the Provincial Highway 1A/22 interchange project.

Mayor Jeff Genung said that with record population growth for Cochrane, the Town needs to maintain strategic partnerships with the province to address its ever-changing situation.

“With extreme growth, comes extreme pressures on our community and it is important we leverage the meaningful relationships fostered with provincial decision makers to ensure we have the adequate resources available to address our unique needs,” Genung said.

With a vetted interest by Cochranites in the long-term sustainability of Cochrane, the Town added that this partnership with the community can play a key role in voicing the needs of the community.

The campaign aims to inform residents of recent achievements, investments and commitments made by the province to Cochrane, and clarify the roles and responsibilities of both the municipality and province.

Director of organizational strategy and culture for The Town of Cochrane, Lisa Almond, said this campaign is to ensure that advocacy priorities are understood by members of the RancheHouse, residents, government officials, and additional key audiences in Cochrane.

“Through this campaign, we are hopeful that residents understand the needs of our community, feel empowered and prepared to share and advocate on behalf of Cochrane, and most importantly are proud to be part of our community,” Almond said.

Residents are encouraged to find out more and get involved. For more information on the advocacy campaign, visit Cochrane.ca/yourvoice.
