Town of Cochrane and the Cochrane Public Library are exploring the needs and benefits of a new multi-purpose facility.

As Cochrane’s population continues to grow, so does the demand for vital community services, including those offered by the public library.

To meet these evolving needs, the Cochrane Public Library, in partnership with the Town of Cochrane, has launched a Facility Needs Assessment project titled ‘Your Voice in Every Chapter.’ The initiative, running from July 14 to August 24, invites residents to help shape the future of library services and envision the possibilities for a new multi-purpose facility.

“The library has always been a place where our community comes together, but we know we can do even more,” said Library Board Chair Rhonda Newman. “This project is about imagining what’s possible – creating spaces where kids can explore, seniors can connect, and everyone in between can learn, share, and grow.”

The assessment is part of a broader strategic planning initiative to guide long-term investments in community infrastructure.

“This is our community’s chance to weigh in and ensure this space truly reflects the heart of Cochrane and supports our community for years to come,” said Mayor Jeff Genung.

How to Get Involved:

  • Take the online survey at LetsTalkCochrane.ca/yourvoice
  • Participate in local pop-up events and self-guided engagement stations (details available on the Let’s Talk Cochrane website)

Organizers are asking residents to reflect on how the library has played a role in their lives, whether as a quiet refuge, a community hub, or a place of discovery. Residents are then asked to share ideas for what a future facility could offer.
