Cochrane Legion invites locals to Remembrance Day ceremony this Friday

To honour the fallen and those who serve to protect Canada, The Royal Canadian Legion, Men of Vision Branch No. 15, of Cochrane will host a Remembrance Day celebration on Nov. 11 at the Cochrane Cenotaph at 10:40 a.m.

To remember the sacrifices of those who fought to protect our country, The Royal Canadian Legion, Men of Vision Branch No. 15 in Cochrane will host a Remembrance Day ceremony on the morning of Nov. 11.

The ceremony will take place at the Cochrane Cenotaph at the intersection between 1st St. and 5th Ave., and will begin at 10:40 a.m.

It will start with opening remarks by Warrant Officer Bradley Ross, an Entrance of Colours with Cade Legg as the piper for the Piper Marches in Colours, “O Canada” sung by Janet Faynor, and the Deposit of Colours.

Those in attendance and planned to speak include Darla Gullons on behalf of Silver Cross Mother Leona Stock, Kenneth MacArthur from the Government of Canada on behalf of Banff-Airdrie MP Blake Richards, Airdrie-Cochrane MLA Peter Guthrie, Mayor Jeff Genung, and Rocky View County Mayor Don Kochan.

In Flanders Fields will be read by Joey Cyr, followed by a playing of The Last Post with trumpeter Ryan Hart, two minutes of silence commencing at 11:00 a.m., a Reveille, an Act of Remembrance, and a Benediction by pastor Brent Rushinka.

Warrant officer Ross will start the laying of the wreaths with Faynor singing “God Save the King.” Upon the exit of the Colour Party, a general wreath-laying by the public will end the ceremonies.
