Mike Fenton with Fenton Automotive in Cochrane is getting a shave! Fenton will be shaving his beard to raise money for the Cochrane Activettes’ Share Your Christmas program.
“The Share Your Christmas hamper program provides food, clothing and gifts to over 150 families,” states the Activettes’ website.
“I’ve always thought the Share Your Christmas (program) was a good cause and keeping (the money) in the community is important to me,” said Fenton.
He had the idea for the fundraiser earlier this month and has been collecting donations since Nov. 13.
“My customers and friends were recently bugging me saying they’ve never seen me without (my beard), so I figured we should pick a good cause and raise some money if I’m going to (shave) it,” said Fenton.
The Cochrane local is known for having a hairy chin so this will come as a big change.
“I’ve just always had (my beard) – this will be the first time in six years that I’ve shaved it off,” said Fenton. “Everyone who knows me knows my beard.”
The goal for the fundraiser is $3,000 and after just 10 days, Fenton says he’s close to “halfway there already”.
Anyone looking to make a donation is asked to stop by the shop during business hours until Dec. 13. The honor of shaving the beard goes to his sister, Karla, and everyone is welcome to come to Fenton Automotive on the last day, Dec. 13, at 1 p.m. to bid it farewell!
